Owen County Radio Amateurs Assist With County Siren Test
Next Test Friday October 1st at Noon
At noon on the first Friday of each month, if there is no inclement weather,
the Owen County radio amateurs assist in the testing of the eleven severe weather
warning sirens. Amateurs station their mobile equipment at each site and report
to the EMA director Jack White KC9OQK the results of the test via the Spencer
146.985 MHz repeater. (136.5 Hz CCTSS tone).
During the September 3rd test, problems were discovered. There were three tests conducted
to diagnose the problems. On the first test, from the EMA office, of the nine sirens covered, four failed and two others
passed with a 'gurgle'.
The second test was also ran from the EMA office. Two of the sirens that had failed
the first test, worked.
The test was then run from the Owen County Dispatch Center and the previously failing two
sirens worked.
The Emergency Management Agency's console is being tested.
If you are able to participate at any of the following
locations October 1st at noon, please contact Jim K9EOH at 812 828-0629 so he may
coordinate the coverage. We especially need to cover Patricksburg and McCormick's Creek School
as they were not covered during the August and September tests.
